Ditches and ass-hole cops

2003-01-08, 1:26 p.m.
Now that I've calmed down a bit, I'll elaborate on what happened Monday.

I was going to work when I really shouldn't have because the roads were so bad. But, idiot that I am I decided to try it. I was going very slowly down an S-curve hill on this really bad road. I had my brake on very lightly the whole way and when I got to the bottom of the hill my car kept going straight while the road curved to the left. My wheels locked up and would not respond. So my car slowly slid into a ditch and I just sat there.

My first thought was to call my mom. So I tried her cell phone; turned off. Then I tried to call my dad but the phoen would not ring. At this point, a car (thank God) had stopped and the driver was coming over to me. I rolled down my window as I tried to call my dad. I don't know how I made it through those first few minutes so calm. When the phone didn't work, the guy who stopped let me use his cell phone, which worked. I called my dad and he said he would call a tow-truck.

The guy who let me use his cell phone (I'm thinking he must've been my Guardian Angel or somehting) said he should get going but was glad I was alright, got in his car and drove away.

I had also gotten out of the car at this point and that's when I started crying. After I moved away from the car and got a good look at it, I realized I was incredibly lucky to be unhurt. If I had gone any further, the car would have flipped over and fallen into a ravine. Yeah, no guard rail. With the angle the car was at, I'm surprised it didn't flip over when I got out. Everyone who stopped to see if I was alright and if a tow-truck was coming pointed out how lucky I was.

Of all the people who stopped to see how I was, my Uncle was one of them! I was so relieved to see someone I knew. He pulled into the driveway and let me sit in the car, which was lucky for me because it ended up taking my dad almost an hour to get to where I was; I would've been standing outside the whole time.

Well, my dad finally got there and after a ton of complications, a tow-truck arrived. However, since I had dented a mailbox (which is a *federal offense*) the cops had to be called. So when the cop finally arrived he decided to give me a ticket. Thank you very much. As I was sitting in the front of the police car giving him "my story", he starts lecturing me. I made a tow truck come out here, I made the cop (God forgive me) come out here, I had traffic all tied up...everyone else had to get down the hill safely. For some reason, Mr. Ultra-sweet-super-sensitive cop decided not to give me a ticket. Oh Thank You. *SIGH* (s*a*r*c*a*s*m) When I stared crying agian he's like "What are you so upset about? You're not getting a ticket, you're not hurt." I looked over at the car and said, "I'm UPSET because I'm looking at my car and seeing that I almost fell into a ravine." THANKS FOR CARING.

Well it turns out that my tires were bald (which, once again Thank God) the cop didn't see. Apparently, my tires were 90% of the reason I went into the ditch. I was glad to hear it wasn't completly my fault.

I'm just glad to be alive.
